I have forgotten that I even wrote this until I looked at my diary recently. Here are some thoughts penned down in January this year.
"To love abundantly is to live abundantly, and to love forever is to live forever." (Henry Drummond).
The second phrase is so powerful - to love forever is to live forever. This is the ultimate Christianity. The person who keeps on loving has the reason to keep on living each day. I should not view this life as a form of existence, a lifetime I need to pass through, a test that I need to take. It is for me to love and to be loved, for that is the crux of living. At the very core of it, God made us for the pleasure of knowing us and loving us; and just somehow that we may respond in love to Him from our innermost being. To some, love is a many splendoured thing. It is not just that. It is the greatest thing in the world. It is the only thing worth living for. God is love. Even if we are stripped of everything else, He alone is worth living for. He is the reason for living.
Indeed, the power of love is immense and only God knows and gives it at its fullest extent. But I am human and I struggle to see beyond my limited world around me. I see the Australian bush fire disaster, the economic crisis affecting so many families, the poverty and suffering of the disadvantaged/ disabled, the cancer patients ... God, what have we, humans done to your world? Yet your love is eternal, never changing, still encourages us on and in these times we realise we need God more than ever before.
